Project Overview
Spotify Niels is a live visual display of whatever I’m currently listening to on Spotify. It shows the album art, track title and artist on a calm, dark page with soft gradients, designed to feel more like an ambient screensaver than a regular music player. You can leave it open on a second screen, a TV or a laptop in the background and it just quietly updates with whatever is playing.
The idea started from wanting something nicer than a small Spotify widget or notification. I wanted a dedicated page that feels intentional and aesthetic, something friends could open and immediately see what I’m listening to without any extra steps. At the same time I wanted it to be a bit collaborative, so anyone can look up a song and suggest what I should play next. That turns the page into a small shared space instead of a one-way broadcast.
The currently playing track is kept in sync through a cloud database so everyone looking at the page sees the same live song in real time. Suggestions from friends are added the same way, keeping everything simple and immediate. The whole experience is meant to stay light and visual: no complicated controls, just the music and a clean way for people around me to jump in and influence what’s next.
The project exists for the feeling it creates more than anything else. It’s a quiet, shared glimpse into my current listening, presented as something calm and pleasant rather than a tool you have to interact with.
